At Street Cube sustainability isn’t just a ‘buzz’ word or this year’s fad. It is at the heart of everything that we do and that we aim to achieve.
Our ethos takes its roots in the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals shown in the chart on the right. As you can see, eleven of the goals relate to food, highlighting just how important a component food is, in achieving our overall sustainability aims.
Sustainable development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while at the same time sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend. The desired result is a state of society where living conditions and resource use continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system. Sustainable development can be classified as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations. How we produce and consume food is undoubtedly a major factor in determining the long term sustainability of our planet.
